A two-day residential clinical skills Spine Atheltes  course will be held on Saturday 18 & Sunday 19 May 2013 at the National Stadium, Kautanzoglio, Thessaloniki, Greece. It is aimed at enhancing delegates skills in the assessment of musculoskeletal injury.  The course is an amalgamation of ECOSEP’s previous upper and lower limb courses and is aimed at Sports Medicine Physicians Specialist Registrars,Orthopaedic Surgeons, Physical Rehbilitation Physicians ,General Practitioners,Physios  with an interest in sport and musculoskeletal medicine.

COURSE LECTURERS

 

Professor Nicola Maffulli MD MS PhD FRCS (Orth) FRCP FFSEM – Nicola Maffulli is Centre Lead and Professor of Sport & Exercise Medicine and Consultant Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgeon, Mile End Hospital. His main clinical interests lie in the management of lower limb sports injuries and in paediatric musculoskeletal sports medicine. Special interests include Anterior Cruciate Ligament and Patellar and Achilles tendons. His main research interests are the histology and biology of overuse tendon injuries and the effects of intensive training in young and older athletes. A florid research programme is under way with international collaborators, focusing on orthopaedic genetics, outcome measures and randomized controlled trials in trauma and orthopaedics, and tissue engineering of tendons. Professor Maffulli has recently been awarded the Fellowship of the Royal College of Physicians.

 

Dr Otto Chan MBBS FRCS Ed FRCS Glas FRCR (UK) ATLS Instructor – Dr Chan is a Consultant Radiologist specialising in Imaging and radiology. Treatments/Procedures include CT scanning, MRI scanning, MRI scanning (open), Ultrasound, X-ray and Radiology. His professional memberships include BMA, BIR, ESGAR and BTS. Otto has extensive experience in all aspects of GI, thoracic radiology, Emergency radiology and MSK/Sports Medicine, including all aspects of MSK intervention. His multidisciplinary team approach to sports medicine diagnosis and management is unique, working with nationally and internationally renowned clinicians and with strong clinical and academic links with the Sports and Health and Exercise Department at Queen Mary’s College. The service is supported by a very experienced relaxed and friendly staff, as well as state of the art radiology equipment with a Siemens Antares Premium Edition US, Siemens 1.5T MR and a new Somaton Definition 128 MDCT system.

 

Dr  Nikolaos Malliaropoulos MD,DSM, Msc, PhD, ECOSEP, FFSEM(UK).

Nikos is a sports medicine doctor who graduated from the American college ANATOLIA of Thessaloniki and then from the Medical School from Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. He has been Director of the Sports injuries clinic of Track and Field Association in Thessaloniki, since 1986 and was Chief Medical Officer of the Hellenic Olympic Team XXVIII Olympics Athens 2004. Additionally Nikos was Director of the Medical Services of the First South Eastern European Games 2007 .He is a Fellow of the UK Faculty of Sports and Exercise medicine Royal College of Surgeons Edinburgh .He is at the European Judo Union Medical Committee, a Founding member of the European College of Sports and Exercise Physicians – ECOSEP and founding member  of the Greek Sports Medicine Association, a Fellow of the International Federation of Sports Medicine FIMS, a Member of the British Sports and Exercise medicine Association, and a Member of the Greek Trauma Association. Nikos is also a Balkan Judo Champion in Judo – 5TH DAN and British Judo Coach.
