A 33 year old patient, who had a heart implant 5 years ago, gave birth to a pair of twins in a cesarean section. This is the first case of a birth following a heart implant in Israel, and the fifth case in the world in which twins were born after the implant. Dr. David Zacut, a senior physician at the Department of Obstetrics and maternity ward, Hadassah, personally followed the patient during the pregnancy and the childbirth.

The patient, who suffered from a kidney tumor at the age of 1 year old, has had surgery and chemotherapy. At the age of 9 she suffered from heart problems caused by her medication, until she had a complete heart failure. Despite the fact that chemotherapy hurts fertility, Prof. Arye Hurwitz and the fertility clinic at Hadassah managed to impregnate her by in vitro fertilization.

The patient gave birth to twin girls on the 33rd week of her pregnancy.
